Murray enjoyed a much deserved retirement from the sixteen hour days of his fishing business but was not one to sit around doing nothing.
In 1997 he fulfilled another life's ambition by building the Nixon Family Restaurant with the help of his own family. It was not unusual to find Murray at the restaurant at four a.m. opening the doors, cooking, and serving breakfast to the early risers. Afterwards he might head out on his boat fishing that same Chowan River where he got his start.
Murray lost his wife Marian of fifty-five years in 2008 and we all lost Murray in August of 2009. His legacy lives on in the business that he started by selling the widest variety of high quality seafood to various cliental from wholesale, retail, restaurants, and grocery stores.
